Our History

25 Year Anniversary

1997

MORI Associates is founded and operated in Founder Shanaz Amirjafari’s basement with one other employee. Within months, the company secures its first federal contract with the Department of the Navy and hires five full-time employees, moving headquarters to its first office space in Bethesda, Maryland.

1998

MORI Associates is awarded its first prime engineering contract with the town of Kensington - a local Maryland town quickly emerging as a hotspot for top engineering firms and solutioning.

1999

Established to recognize teams whose significant contributions demonstrate innovation and acquisition excellence, MORI Associates is nominated for The David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Award for its work with the Department of the Navy.

2000

A successful project completion with the Federal Railroad Administration leads to continued contract wins with the organization and expansion of services from website assistance to data migration and Oracle development.

2001

The start of a nearly two-decade partnership begins as the company secures its first subcontract at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). In the same year, MORI Associates makes history as it’s awarded with the largest contract to a Woman-Owned Business in the Department of the Navy’s history, with a contract value of $3.1M.

2001

Beginning a fruitful and meaningful relationship with the National Institutes of Health, our support grows from one MORI teammate on one purchase order to a strong team of nearly 40.

2003

MORI Associates is invited into the Department of the Navy Mentor-Protégé program assisting small businesses in expanding its footprints in the defense industrial base. A month later, the company is invited into the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Mentor-Protégé program with trusted partner and market leader, Lockheed Martin.

2004

MORI Associates' presence is materialized as the company is named as a Top 100 Diversity-Owned Maryland Business, Top 500 Women-Owned Business in the US, SBA Women-in-Business Advocate of the Year, and Diversity Business.com Top 500 Women-owned business in the USA.

2006

Completed in seven months instead of the projected two years, MORI Associates is one of the first five companies to receive the CMMI Level II Certification. The company is dedicated to streamlining process improvement, encouraging a productive, efficient culture, and decreasing risks in development.

2009

After more than a decade of proven excellence and commitment to its clients, partners, and employees, MORI Associates headquarters relocates from Bethesda to its current office space in Rockville - a hub for top engineering and IT firms.

2013

Expanding to the West Coast, the company is awarded its first Prime Contract with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory providing extensive network infrastructure and data systems end-user support as an IT mission-services provider. The team goes on to support more than 25 JPL missions, including OSIRIS-REx, the InSight Mars Landers, and others.

2014

Motivated to give back to the community, the company and its employees around the nation donate to and participate in engagements with Meals on Wheels, Pasadena Education Foundation, DMV Food Finds, St. Jude’s Children, and others, bringing our mission statement to “progress science and technology for the benefit of all life on Earth,” to fruition.

2016

Expedition 48 is MORI Associates’ first supported mission as prime contractor of the Communications, Outreach, Multimedia and Information Technology (COMIT) Contract, the largest prime contract in the company's history.

2021

COMIT team members win an Emmy for their animated series, “So You Want to Go to Mars?,” designed to educate audiences about NASA’s upcoming plans to return to the Moon and journey on to Mars.

2022

Space Communicator of the Year is awarded to MORI teammate, Bill Ingalls, at The Rotary National Award for Space Achievement (RNASA) Gala, a special honor as the first contractor to be awarded this distinction for documenting space and NASA history.

2022

Celebrating 25 years at the forefront of science, technology and engineering solutions, MORI Associates provides each employee with $25 to donate to a non-profit supporting further STEM education for underrepresented and underprivileged youth. $12,500 is donated on behalf of our employees to make a meaningful difference in our communities.
